The eight-cylinder coupé, equipped with automatic transmission as standard, was built only 3,270 times and is today one of the most sought-after classics of its era. Even today, its forms seem up-to-date and by no means “old-fashioned”. In the movie “Hangover” the four main characters drive to Las Vegas in a Mercedes 280 SE 3.5.

The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Coupé is the top model of the W 111 Coupés, which were built from 1961 to 1971. In terms of design and style, the luxury coupés were based on the “tail fin sedans” of the W 111 series, which were introduced in August 1959. The two-door models also featured the safety body with crumple zones, which had been introduced as a world innovation in the sedans. In September 1969, the 280 SE 3.5 Coupé made its debut as the most powerful version with a completely newly developed 3.5-liter V8 engine. The top model is characterized by particularly smooth running and at the same time enables sports car-like performance.
The W 111 is timeless – it’s hard to believe that it was presented 50 years ago. Its design comes from the charismatic Mercedes stylist Paul Bracq. The 280 SE 3.5 impresses not only with its powerful looks, but also with its durability.
