The birth of the modern Alfas actually occurred in 1955, with the introduction of the Giulietta Spider. This car captured the hearts of dedicated Alfa fans in flight and provided the basis for all subsequent Spiders up to the 1990s. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce was a roadster produced by the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1962 to 1977. The 1965 model was part of the first series, also known as the “Duetto” or “Roundtail”. It was produced in limited numbers, with around 21,000 units of the Series 1 Giulia Spider Veloce built between 1962 and 1965. It’s quite a rare model and quite sought after by Alfa Romeo enthusiasts and collectors.

The designer Dottore Orazio Satta Puglia was to build a small inexpensive car that was also affordable for normal earners. Many components were based on the technology of the large 1900 series. For example, the Giulia already had independent front suspension, rigid rear axle and telescopic dampers with coil springs on all four wheels, while the competition still used leaf springs. The engine with its overhead camshafts and light-alloy block were further innovations of the Giulia. Alfa Romeo built the Giulietta/Giulia Spider for over ten years. Customers loved the compact sports car and used it in everyday life and even in motor sports. It was powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine that produced 108 horsepower. The car was well-regarded for its excellent handling and performance, as well as its sleek, sporty design.
This Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider is one of only 1091 produced and was initially delivered to the USA. In 1990, Detlef-Peter Nussbaum – who later headed the Classic Alfa Romeo Club – bought the Veloce. For 4 years it was lovingly and extensively restored. It might be hard to find a comparable Veloce on the market – most have suffered at the hands of windy restorers or are fakes. And it is especially rare to find it in this original Blu Medio colour.
