One of the most exclusive cabriolets in the world

With the small series of the luxury yacht on wheels, limited to 300 units, Maybach is not only vying for the attention of wealthy connoisseurs in Malibu, Nice or Marbella, but also wants to profit a little from the success of the Rolls-Royce Dawn and possibly lure a few converts in view of its long delivery times. The Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet is based on the open-top S-Class and has adopted the latter’s classically aesthetic proportions, among other things, the highlights of which are the dynamic silhouette with the coupé-like soft top and the dropping line of the side panel sloping down towards the rear. Special features include the high-end interior appointments.

Propulsion is provided by the 6.0-liter V12 with an output of 463 kW (630 hp). Included with every Mercedes-Maybach Cabriolet is a car cover made of high-quality fabric in soft-top color with diamond stitching and embroidered Maybach emblem and lettering on the hood. Exclusive Mercedes-Maybach features include a new front bumper with upgraded lower section and numerous chrome accents to visibly underscore the special luxury claim. On the fender, the Maybach emblem is inconspicuously but elegantly staged. Another special feature on the exterior are the 20-inch Maybach forged wheels in a bicolor finish. When the doors are opened, the Maybach logo is projected onto the road with the aid of the entrance lighting. In the interior, the fully leathered Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet translates some of the visionary ideas from the Concept S-Class Coupé show car (IAA 2013) into series production. These include the dynamic “flow of lines” in the seats. This waterfall-like graphic is realized with the aid of progressive perforation. The diamond stitching on the outside of the seat bolsters and the Budapest-style piping also demonstrate attention to detail. All the special features of the S-Class Cabriolet are on board the Mercedes-Maybach as standard, including AIRCAP, AIRSCARF and Swarovski headlights.

As the premiere at the LA Auto Show showed, opulence also reigns under the hood in the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet: because, of course, the luxury cabriolet is only available with the V12 engine from AMG, which produces a sinful 630 hp from six liters of displacement and propels the luxury steamer towards the horizon with up to 1000 Newton meters. With a sprint time of 4.1 seconds, that’s enough for a pretty wild storm hairdo – even if the speed is dutifully restricted to 250 km/h.
